Fervor Pt. 1

"Fervor - Pt. 1"

Revelation 2:1–5 — The Warning to Ephesus

The church in Ephesus had:

• Good works
• Perseverance
• Strong doctrine
• Endurance

But Jesus says:

“Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.”

Big Idea

The Christian life stretches in two directions:

Fervent love toward people.
Fervent prayer toward God.

⸻

Point 1 — Fervor Doesn’t Happen by Default (Intentional)

Romans 12:11

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”

Fervor doesn’t happen accidentally.

You don’t drift into passion.
You drift away from it.

A lot of people believe in God.

But belief alone isn’t the same as fervent faith.

Point 2 — Fervor Isn’t Afraid to Be Seen

2 Samuel 6:14

“And David danced before the Lord with all his might.”

The Ark of the Covenant — the symbol of God’s presence — is returning to Jerusalem.

David responds with unrestrained worship.

His wife criticizes him.

But David responds:

2 Samuel 6:22

“I will make myself yet more contemptible than this.”

Translation:

“I don’t care how this looks. God is worthy.”

DESCRIPTION

What if the biggest danger to your faith isn’t opposition… but apathy?

In this message, we explore Jesus’ warning to the church in Revelation that had all the right beliefs but had slowly drifted from their first love. Many people today aren’t angry at God or rejecting faith — they’re just spiritually asleep.

This message looks at what the Bible calls fervent faith, a life that stretches toward people with love and reaches toward God in prayer.

If you’ve ever felt spiritually stuck, distracted, or distant from God, this message will help you rediscover what it means to wake your heart up again.

  2. Have you ever experienced “drifting” in any area of life — relationships, work, faith, or motivation? What did that look like?

  3. What are some habits or influences that most affect the direction of your spiritual life?

  4. The Bible describes love as something that stretches beyond our feelings. What does that look like practically in marriage, friendships, or parenting?

  5. David worshiped God without worrying about how he looked. What fears or social pressures sometimes hold people back from expressing their faith openly?

2 Deep Journal Questions
